EV-27627 - Attracting New Contact Lens Wearers ." Comfort Technology in Daily Disposable Materials. (2010-09-06 12:30:00) 1.0 contact lens point CIBA VISION PRACTICE ACADEMY

Daily disposable lenses are the fastest growing modality. Much of this growth has come from new wearers being recommended this type of contact lens by their Eye Care Practitioner. This course demonstrates how both the practitioner and their practice can benefit from this growth, providing the practitioner with new, innovative techniques in introducing lenses to non-wearers. These innovative techniques can enhance the customer journey, help to grow the value of contact lenses within your business and build patient loyalty, and have been shown to assist in the purchase of higher value spectacles. In addition this course offers education in modern contact lens material technology, covering the latest innovations available to improve wearer comfort throughout the day and achieve biomimesis ." the ultimate aim in contact lens development.

EV-27626 - Building patient loyalty ." meeting patient needs through monthly disposable contact lenses. (2010-09-06 13:30:00) 1.0 contact lens point CIBA VISION PRACTICE ACADEMY

The value that an aftercare appointment can create for a practice often goes unrecognised. The dynamic approach of this course from the Practice Academy helps practitioners see the value of an aftercare appointment and moreover, realise its benefits. Enhancing the approach to an aftercare appointment can not only help the practice gain incremental value from contact lens patients, but also build loyalty and minimise the number of patients dropping out of contact lenses. The benefits of silicone hydrogel lenses are discussed in this course, offering an up-to-date comparison of the latest silicone hydrogel materials and designs currently available from several manufacturers. Those attending will be provided with additional and complementary tools such as a contact lens questionnaires to help the practitioner better understand individual patient needs. To help embed learnings and gain lasting value from this course, practitioners will be encouraged to set themselves objectives focussed on proactively upgrading patients to healthier, more comfortable contact lenses.

The pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy as well as the ocular signs of systemic hypertension. Angiomas and neovascularisatoin will be covered as well as the ophthalmological and optometric management of these patients. Attention will also be drawn to ischemia of the optic nerve head with AION and optic nerve hemorrhages. The prodromal signs of stroke (amaurosis fugax) will also be discussed. Blood disorders including leukemia and the anemias will be discussed and their signs and management strategies for the optometrist

EV-28769 Multifocal workshop 2 (2010-09-06 17:00:00) 4.0 contact lens points CIBA VISION PRACTICE ACADEMY

Soft multifocal contact lenses are underutilised within the UK optometric industry and have the potential to provide significantly better visual outcomes for many individuals within the presbyopic patient population. Given that ‘dependence on reading spectacles’ in presbyopic patients has the potential to negatively impact upon their ability to function and general quality of life it is important that practitioners can effectively reduce/eliminate a presbyopic patients need for reading glasses. Multifocal contact lenses require a relatively greater level of skill by practitioners in order that they are fitted and adjusted appropriately. This workshop provides a hands-on opportunity for practitioners to perfect their multifocal lens fitting skills and ensure that they can provide an appropriate level of care, vision and freedom from spectacles to their presbyopic patients.
