Optimal management of the dry eye requires listening carefully to the patient’s history and symptoms, gleaning information about their work and recreational environment, detailed assessment of the tears and ocular surface using a battery of tests and an appreciation of the various management approaches. In the case of contact lens wearers, lens material, design, wearing schedule and care products all need to be carefully considered before any management decisions are taken, it is not always the fault of the lens! |

1. To demonstrate a range of clinical investigations that can easily be carried out in practice including some of the latest equipment, tests and stains available.
2. To discuss the benefits of the latest contact lens materials in the management of marginal dry eye patients
3. To review the latest strategies available for the treatment of the marginal dry eye and demonstrate the latest eye drops, gels and wipes available on the marketplace
4. To introduce techniques to improve patient understanding and compliance with dry eye management therapies |

Caroline Christie BSc(Hons) FCOptom DipCLP FIACLE Caroline graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University in the early 80’s. During her career she has held the posts of senior optometrist in the Contact Lens Department of Moorfields Eye Hospital, visiting lecturer / tutor at both City and East London College and City University London and professional services management roles within the CL industry and for the David Clulow group of practices. As Operations Director of OEL Caroline was involved in planning, development and delivery of CE for independent and corporate clients and was until recently the Education Consultant to the BCLA. In September 2007 Caroline was appointed Associate Director of Contact Lenses at City University, London teaching both under and post graduate level contact lenses and allied subjects. Caroline has just completed a year maternity cover in the post of Clinical Director at City University whilst maintaining a significant teaching involvement in Contact Lenses and Anterior Eye. Caroline is a Senior Examiner and Assessor for the College of Optometrists at entry level, non-EEA and higher diploma examinations. She herself holds a Fellowship in Low Vision and the Diploma in Contact Lens Practice and recently became a fellow by examination of the International Association of Contact Lens Educators. Caroline continues to be involved in clinical trials as well as acting in a consultancy and educational role for a number of the UK and International Contact Lens companies. She has lectured extensively in the UK, Europe and Asia writing numerous CET articles for journals as well as recording and filming distance learning DVDs for the profession. Caroline is the co-author of the text book “Clinical Optics and Refraction”. |
