Short CET Abstract : Indirect ophthalmoscopy is an invaluable technique in optometric practice. This workshop will allow delegates to conduct indirect ophthalmoscopy on model eyes thereby taking time (safely) to learn how to get the best images. A suite of condensing (Volk) lenses will be made available enabling the participant to understand the relative benefits of the lenses.

Learning Objectives : a) Delegates will have an understanding of the instances where indirect ophthalmoscopy is superior to direct ophthalmoscopy
b) The orientation of the image as viewed by modern condensing lenses will be understood
c) Delegates will be able to conduct indirect ophthalmoscopy using high powered condensing lenses and a slit lamp
Author Short CV(s) : Kamlesh Chauhan BSc (Hons), PhD, MCOptom has over 20 years experience in teaching. Kamlesh has taught at under-graduate, MSc, PhD and post-graduate clinical training. He is a senior College examiner, Chair of the College's Assessment Board, Editor for the College OSCEs and part of the review group for the Scheme for Registration. Outside of the College duties he taught at Manchester university in topics including geometrical optics, statistics and research methods, contact lenses, binocular vision, instrumentation techniques, ocular disease and management and refraction. Kamlesh has also written some peer-reviewed clinical articles including the use of slit-lamps. He is currently the Head of The Vision Care Institute, UK for Johnson & Johnson Medical Ltd.

Special Facilities / Equipment :
a) Custom made model eyes for indirect ophthalmoscopy mounted within manakin heads which in turn are positioned on a slit lamp in the same manner as a real patient. b) A suite of Volk lenses that will allow delegates to explore and experience the benefits of using different condensing lenses c) High quality slit lamps with built in filters such as Wratten 12 and variable neutral density filters d) High definition cameras on all slit lamps with two video monitors in each of 6 consulting rooms

Any Other Information : This workshop is part of a two-day course designed to help those practitioners returning to practice after an absence or those who want to refresh their skills and knowledge. This element of the course is an elective and thereby delegates wishing not to take part will be able to participate in another workshop or take a break over this period.
