Short CET Abstract : The abilty to conduct contact tonometry and understand the results thereof is a valuable part of all eyecare practitioners' role. This workshop allows delegates to conduct contact tonometry (if allowable) using either a Goldmann or Perkins type tonometer. Discussion of results and their significance will also help the understanding of the importance of tonometry.

Learning Objectives : a) Delegates will be able to use local anaesthetic to facilitate the assessment of IOP using a contact tonometer (dispensing opticians will be able to observe the technique being conducted)
b) Delegates will be able to conduct contact tonometry
c) The measurements taken will serve to allow supervised peer-discussion to determine 'normal' values
Author Short CV(s) : Kamlesh Chauhan BSc (Hons), PhD, MCOptom has over 20 years experience in teaching. Kamlesh has taught at under-graduate, MSc, PhD and post-graduate clinical training. He is a senior College examiner, Chair of the College's Assessment Board, Editor for the College OSCEs and part of the review group for the Scheme for Registration. Outside of the College duties he taught at Manchester university in topics including geometrical optics, statistics and research methods, contact lenses, binocular vision, instrumentation techniques, ocular disease and management and refraction. Kamlesh has also written some peer-reviewed clinical articles including the use of slit-lamps. He is currently the Head of The Vision Care Institute, UK for Johnson & Johnson Medical Ltd.

Any Other Information : This workshop is part of a two-day course designed to help those practitioners returning to practice after an absence or those who want to refresh their skills and knowledge. This is an elective part of the course. Those delegates not wishing to, or are legally unable to, conduct this workshop will have the option of taking part in another workshop or to have a break.
