Short CET Abstract : This lecture allows eye care practitioners to work more confidently and responsibly with extended wear contact lenses by allowing them to identifying those who may obtain benefit from their use, understanding the material properties, providing adequate and accurate education to patients about extended wear and being able to identify and manage complications associated with extended wear.

Learning Objectives :
By the end of the session practitioners will; 1. understand the evolution of silicone hydrogel materials and their application to extended wear; 2. be able to identify those patients who may achieve benefit from wearing an extended wear contact lenses; 3. understand the lifestyle, social, recreational, preference, occupational requirements which may favour extended wear as the preferred contact lens modality; 4. be able to communicate the appropriate benefits and safety considerations of extended wear to patients; 5. be able to identify and manage common complications associated with extended wear contact lenses
Author Short CV(s) : Cameron Hudson qualified as an optometrist in 2002 before obtaining a PhD investigating novel approaches to Glaucoma detection in 2003. During his PhD Cameron spent time working in the glaucoma outpatients clinic at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff under the supervision of Mr James Morgan (consultant ophthalmologist). He was also responsible for mentoring and teaching optometry undergraduates in refraction skills and carried out a clinic at the Cardiff University Eye Clinic for children and adults with severe learning disabilities. Since obtaining his PhD, Cameron held the position of training and development manager with Optical Express and has presented CET extensively during this time. Cameron’s current role is Professional Services Manager for CIBA VISION UK and Ireland and is responsible for professional training and education in the field of contact lenses and current clinical best practice.
